A pillow that lets your spine rest
Your pillow decides whether your head and neck lie in a natural position and whether sleep is truly restful. Too high or too firm strains the neck, too low or too soft gives no support. Height matters most, then filling and size.
How to choose the height
- Low — for back and stomach sleepers: the head does not tilt up.
- Medium — for back and side sleepers. A good choice if you change position at night.
- High — for side sleepers and people with broad shoulders: it fills the space between shoulder and head.
A well-chosen pillow holds your head so that the spine stays in a straight line.
Filling
- Alpaca wool — springy and firmer than down, it does not flatten overnight and supports the neck well. It regulates temperature and wicks moisture, so your head does not sweat. Alpaca wool contains no lanolin, which people with allergies often react to.
- Microgel, microplush, silicone fibre — synthetic, soft and light, at a lower price. They can often be machine washed.
Size
50×70 is the most common size in Poland and fits most pillowcases. 50×60 is the size found in Scandinavian stores, 70×80 is a large pillow, and 40×40 a small decorative or travel one. Before buying, check the pillowcase size of your bedding.
Care
Follow the label. Air the pillow regularly, and after washing dry it thoroughly and shake it so the filling regains its shape. Do not machine wash a wool pillow unless the label allows it.
