The compartment runs the full area under the mattress and the full height of the frame — it holds duvets, pillows and bedding sets that would otherwise take a shelf in the wardrobe.
The base lifts on two gas struts: one hand, smoothly, even with a heavy mattress. That is the difference between storage you use and storage you avoid opening.
